The Greek National Opera on Tinos

As part of the Greek National Opera’s outreach strategy and willingness to connect with audiences outside Athens, this year the GNO Learning & Participation department begins a collaboration with the Municipality of Tinos, launching two new artistic and pedagogical programmes, Rosa Das Rosas for the island’s primary education schools and Tikitak Tikitak for persons aged 65 and over.

A programme of artistic and educational activities for primary education schools

The programme is aimed at students of the fourth and fifth grades of primary education schools, inviting them to an exciting wandering across medieval and traditional music. The main goal of Rosa Das Rosas is to bring children in contact with basic music skills and introduce them into the fascinating world of music theatre through their practical and active participation. Over the course of the programme students will get to know the musical instruments of the medieval era and – through modern pedagogical practices – they will be trained in group singing and will learn how to produce music using their own bodies as percussion. At the same time, through this creative process they will also learn how to collaborate, engage in a fertile exchange of ideas and expand their artistic horizons.

The workshops will come complete with the creation of a musical performance that will be open to the public and will be held on 30 March 2023.

Tikitak Tikitak

Group singing and story crafting workshop for adults aged 65 and over

This new programme is aimed at adults aged 65 and over and draws upon the much-loved songs of Greek operetta and Greek light singing, with the goal of creating an original music theatre performance. The participants, inspired by the songs’ lyrics, will craft short stories, which they will weave into a melodic mosaic made of fragments of yesterday, today and tomorrow. Singing, active musical participation, story crafting through oral games and storytelling and creative writing exercises, as well as a plethora of musical and theatrical sharing and team empowerment activities, are but a few of the tools that will be made use of during the implementation of the workshop. Tikitak Tikitak will be conducted in ten meetings and will come complete with the presentation – with the participation of a small instrumental ensemble – of a shared storytelling performance by the participants, a new music theatre performance that will arise from their experiential journey across the much-loved Greek operetta.

Participation in the programme does not require any prior knowledge of music.
