Alternative Stage
The 2018 GNO Alternative Stage Piano Festival, in collaboration with the Thessaloniki Piano Festival, revisited a theme central to piano’s 20th-century course: Piano & Jazz. The programme comprised five recitals by international soloists (6,7,13,20,21 November), upcoming and young artist showcases, and two major concerts (24,25 November) as a tribute to George Gershwin, conducted by Vladimiros Symeonidis with pianists Antonis Anisegos, Charalambos Angelopoulos and Dimitris Theocharis, soprano Maria Mitsopoulou, and members of the Athens Youth Symphony Orchestra, centering on works like Rhapsody in Blue and Concerto in F. Parallel activities included a three-day masterclass with the Piandaemonium ensemble.
