For a group booking, contact the GNO Box Office at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center: 213 0885700, boxoffice@nationalopera.gr, daily 09:00–21:00. Single tickets are also sold at ticketservices.gr. Change and cancellation terms are on each production’s confirmation.
Planning a visit with pupils, or do you want the opera in the classroom before the coach leaves? Each year the GNO’s learning and participation work builds programmes for schools, projects for children and teenagers, meetings for the whole family, and work in the regions.
You can also bring a class to a performance: at Stavros Niarchos Hall, on the Alternative Stage, or — if the school is not in Athens — to a tour or a project nearer you. Here is how to choose, and how to prepare the pupils.
Before the group arrives
An organised arrival matters as much as the performance itself.
- Read the age guidance and the synopsis on the performance page.
- Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early. Doors usually open one hour before.
- Share the roles: who sits with which group, and where you meet at the interval.
- Say beforehand that once it is dark we do not talk and we do not use phones.
-
Programmes for schools
Workshops and learning sessions that introduce opera, music and dance. The Learning & Participation page gathers dates and how to take part.
-
Performances for children
At Stavros Niarchos Hall and on the Alternative Stage. Karagiozis Rigoletto is a clear example: Greek, shadow theatre, and a Verdi opera behind it.
-
An agreement with the class
Quiet when the lights go down, phones away, and a meeting point for the interval. Say it before you leave school, not at the auditorium door.
-
The story beforehand
Ten minutes in class is enough: who the characters are, what the pupils will hear, how long it lasts. If the performance page has a video or an image, show it.
Age guidance
On each performance page, the Information section states the age the work is suitable for. Choose for your class. There is no single rule for every piece.
