Performances suitable for children
The Greek National Opera offers productions adapted for children and families. These may include works with a lighter plot, easier storytelling and less demanding musical language. Special productions based on fairy tales (for example Beauty and the Beast or Sleeping Beauty) or works with a more theatrical and humorous character are ideal for young audiences.
-
Educational programmes for children
GNO organises educational programmes for children and teenagers, including interactive performances, workshops and events that introduce young audiences to the world of opera. These programmes often include activities that connect music with other arts, such as theatre and dance.

Preparing for the opera
Before the performance, talk to your child about what they will see, so they understand the basics. Explain how music and the voice tell the story, and prepare them for the particular sound of opera (for example high or very loud voices). If possible, find a video or a book about the work you will see, to spark their interest.
-
Tips on behaviour
Children should understand the need for quiet and respect for other audience members. Explain how to watch quietly, when it is the right moment to speak, and why they should avoid interruptions during the performance.
Age suitability
On each performance page, in the “Information” section, you will find the age suitability of the work, so you can make the best choice for your family.
