The GNO Intercultural Choir continues its creative path this year by renewing its repertoire and expanding its artistic pursuits. The focus is on the exploration of various musical traditions and the experimental use of the voice. At the same time, through the exploration of body music practices, the connection of the voice with the body and movement will be further strengthened.

Since its establishment until today, the Intercultural Choir has held numerous concerts and performances, introducing the audience to a polyphonic world where different languages ​​and cultures meet. Last season, it collaborated with the intercultural opera nursery for teenagers Co-OPERAtive, participating in the creative process of the program, but also in the presentation of its final performance, enriching the experience of the young participants with its own sonic imprint.

This year, the choir, guided by collectivity and lively exchange, continues to forge new paths, develop its vocal vocabulary and highlight the creative power of interculturality.

A few words about the Intercultural Choir

The Intercultural Choir began its journey in 2016, with the establishment of a diverse group of Athenians, which brings together different ethnicities and musical traditions. Since then, the members of the Intercultural Choir have united their voices through concerts and artistic collaborations, emphasizing each time the immediacy and power of song and music.

Over the course of its existence, the Intercultural Choir has hosted members from Poland, Slovakia, Tanzania, New Guinea, Ukraine, Cameroon, Syria, Cyprus, the United Kingdom, France, the United States, Canada, Iran, Kenya, Congo, Iraq, Egypt, Serbia, Turkey, Georgia, Algeria, Hungary and Greece.

The Intercultural Choir has performed concerts at the GNO Alternative Stage at the SNFCC, in various squares in Athens, at Eleftherios Venizelos Airport and at the SNF Nostos of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). During the past artistic season, he participated in the performance “Another Winter Journey”, which was presented at the Stavros Niarchos Hall of the GNO at the SNFCC as part of the intercultural opera incubator Co-OPERAtive. He has also collaborated with the International Chorus of the Gothenburg Opera under the direction of composer Trevor Grahl and in works by composer Trevor Grahl.

The support of the GNO’s Intercultural Education Actions is part of the EQUALL Corporate Responsibility actions of Piraeus and in particular the Young Generation pillar.
