Malte Ubenauf first worked as a director before joining Christoph Marthaler at the Schauspielhaus Zürich as a dramaturg in 2003. He then worked with Frank Castorf at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz and at the Thalia Theatre, Hamburg. Since 2005 he has worked mainly as a freelance dramaturg for drama and musical theatre. He has worked continuously with Christoph Marthaler, Anna Viebrock and the opera company Novoflot from Berlin. He also accompanies productions by Christopher Rüping, Karin Henkel, Christiane Pohle, Luk Perceval, Armin Petras and Stefan Pucher, among others. His theatre work has taken him to the Teatro Real Madrid, Zurich Opera House, Opéra national de Paris, Bayreuth Festival, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Theater Basel, Kunstenfestivaldesarts Brussels, Salzburg Festival, Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, Kampnagel Hamburg, Ruhrtriennale, Wiener Festwochen, Bavarian State Opera, Hamburg State Opera, Vlaamse Opera Antwerpen and Gent and Festival d’Avignon. Productions accompanied by Malte Ubenauf have been invited to numerous festivals, including Berlin and Swiss Theatertreffen and Festival d’Automne Paris.
