He has devoted four decades to the study of the musical idioms and techniques of a wide range of traditional and contemporary percussion instruments. Among these, he has focused extensively on the daouli, the only percussion instrument traditionally associated with Cretan music. Through his research and practice, he has developed new techniques and a new musical approach to the instrument, opening up possibilities that did not exist within its traditionally minimalist playing style. This innovative approach has significantly expanded the expressive and technical potential of the instrument without compromising its essential character. At the same time, he has continued to develop the techniques of a traditional Senegalese clay idiophone, incorporating influences from the Indian ghatam, with work that has gained international recognition. He regularly conducts workshops on rhythm and percussion in cities across Greece—including Chania, Rethymno, Heraklion, Athens, and Houdetsi—as well as internationally in Cyprus, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Austria, England, and the Netherlands. In collaboration with universities and academic institutions, he designs and implements large-scale community and educational programmes, promoting research whose findings are presented in academic journals and at international conferences. His collaborations include musicians from Rajasthan, Iran, Bulgaria, Turkey, Armenia, Andalusia, India, Egypt and Azerbaijan. His vocal repertoire is rooted primarily in Cretan music. He has composed original music for theatre, film, dance theatre, documentaries and television productions.
