The concert is inspired by the saxophone quartet repertoire of contemporary Greek and Italian composers. The central thread is composer Dimitris Nikolaou, a Greek-born naturalized Italian who has devoted an extensive, multilayered body of work to the saxophone, including numerous quartet compositions. Around him unfolds a web of pieces for saxophone quartet by prominent contemporary artists, including Alessandro Annunziata, Giacomo Cuticchio and Gianluca Cangemi, some of which were written specifically for this ensemble. The programme is also enriched by an original transcription of three dances by Nikos Skalkottas for saxophone quartet.
