The milestone film of German expressionism, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920), will be screened at the GNO Alternative Stage, with original music by Nikos Karagiannis and live musical accompaniment by the Celluloid Ensemble quartet. The composer seeks to create a new dialogue with Robert Wiene’s iconic film, adding a contemporary musical dimension to its black-and-white cinematography. Through live performance, the work will reconstruct the film’s atmosphere, heighten its dramatic tension, and guide audiences through the distinctive and evocative universe of expressionism.
