The Stavros Niarchos Hall is the Main Stage of the Greek National Opera and the principal venue for the GNO’s artistic productions. With a seating capacity of 1,400 and a design shaped by demanding acoustic standards, it offers audiences a complete visual and musical experience, fully suited to the needs of opera theatre.
The Hall follows a horseshoe-shaped plan and is arranged across the stalls, three boxes and a balcony. Acoustic panels made of American cherry wood, generous stage depth, advanced technical equipment, a surtitling system and hearing assistance facilities support the complex requirements of the GNO’s productions and enhance the experience of every audience member.
Suspended from the ceiling is Cosmos, the sculpture by Susumu Shingu, while the Hall’s distinctive blue backstage areas, selected by the architect, complete the identity of a space designed for large-scale artistic productions, musical precision and the high demands of opera and ballet.
The Stavros Niarchos Hall is where the core of the GNO’s artistic programme comes to life, hosting productions that bring together music, stage performance, dance, visual arts and the technical capabilities of a contemporary opera house. From the classical repertoire to contemporary directorial approaches, the Hall supports the scale, complexity and artistic demands of the Greek National Opera’s productions.
As the GNO’s Main Stage, the Stavros Niarchos Hall is a place of encounter between audiences, opera and ballet in their live form. Its architecture, acoustics and technical infrastructure create an environment that brings music, performance and the experience of the stage into focus, offering every audience member direct access to the world of the Greek National Opera.
