Following its highly successful tour across Greece, the Greek National Opera Ballet’s production, Future Cargo, will travel to Bulgaria for nine performances in three cities, inviting audiences to a one-of-a-kind sci-fi dance experience. Frauke Requardt and David Rosenberg’s original creation transforms a futuristic truck into an unexpected performance venue. The international tour is made possible by a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) [www.SNF.org] to enhance the Greek National Opera’s artistic outreach.
The performance unfolds inside a 40-foot haulage truck, which appears to be carrying a mystery shipment. As the sides roll up, its unusual stage is revealed—a transparent polycarbonate plastic window that allows audiences to see everything that is going on inside. Four GNO Ballet dancers perform on a moving conveyor belt, showcasing a fascinating movement language that explores the concept of performing within an extremely confined space. Audience members receive a set of headphones upon arrival, allowing them to hear inside the container and experience the show’s immersive music, along with the unique sound environment accompanying the action.
Future Cargo presents an unexpected encounter where the surreal meets the familiar, transforming a road truck into a stunning dance performance. The show is designed for both dance enthusiasts of all ages and those seeking new experiences through art.
