Alternative Stage
Queer approaches to Lena Platonos, a tribute event at the GNO Alternative Stage, explored composer Lena Platonos’ status as a landmark of the Greek LGBT community since the 1980s, whose lyrics (expressing distinct, often lonely subjectivities) and peculiar electro-theatre music continue to inspire queer music scenes worldwide. Organized with the Atopos CVC cultural organization (as part of the TextMe Lab project) and the Athens Municipality’s ‘Athens 2018 World Book Capital’ project (major donor: Stavros Niarchos Foundation). Part one featured musicologist Nikos Vourdoulas discussing Platonos’ electronic song-writing and its connection to LGBT communities; part two was a variety show with artists from the domestic queer music scene (Fytini label), including Andriana Minou, Louiza Doloxa, Alexandros Drosos and Filtig, presenting reinterpreted covers of Platonos’ work.
