Composer of orchestral and chamber works, choral works, electro acoustic and dance music, film and theatre. He is Professor of Composition at the University of California – Davis since 1994. He has received commissions from the Koussevitzky Foundation, the Gerbode Foundation, the Terezin Music Foundation and the United States-Mexico Cultural Trust. Among other distinctions, he received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1993, and the Academy Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2008. In the last decade, he has premiered Gallos y Huesos at Teatro Martín Fierro, on texts by Sergio Chejfec, and Maizal del Gregoriano, on texts by Arnaldo Calveyra, at the Centro de Experimentación del Teatro Colón. In the world of visual arts, he has collaborated with Venia Dimitrakopoulou on the sound design of the monumental sculpture Promahones at the Benaki Museum in Athens, and with Eduardo Stupia on a mega-installation based on The Odyssey at the National Immigration Museum in Buenos Aires. Over the last twenty years, he has also worked with choreographer Diana Theocharidis and, most recently, with Facundo Agudin and the Musique des Lumières orchestra in Switzerland on various recording projects.
