The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Chalandri was founded in 1954. Its aim is the creative intervention in the musical events of the city, strengthening the municipality’s cultural development with its contribution. It consists of high-level musicians, while its appearances inside, and outside Chalandri, have made it one of the best orchestras in Greece, with plenty of distinctions. Its musicians also participate in educational seminars provided free of charge by the Chalandri Municipality, in order to introduce young people to orchestral instruments, instrumental techniques, as well as the functioning of a musical ensemble. The orchestra includes smaller ensembles such as a symphony orchestra, a symphonic wind ensemble, a chamber music ensemble, a Greek folk music orchestra, a big band, etc. The Philharmonic Orchestra has taken part in festivals in Greece and abroad and collaborated with internationally acclaimed conductors and soloists. Conductor Kostas Ioannides is the Orchestra’s artistic and musical director.
