Sustainability Hub
Designed to have the lowest possible environmental impact, the GNO Foundation Cultural Center (GNO) is a hub of sustainability and innovation. Since the inception of its creation by the GNO Foundation (SNF) and architect Renzo Piano, sustainability has been a fundamental prerequisite and key element of the project.

GNO Park is an archetypal Mediterranean landscape, which is developed on a hill that hosts the characteristic flora and physiognomy found in an urban landscape.

The Canal is one of the most characteristic elements of the GNO Foundation Cultural Centre. Its design was aimed at
redefining the relationship of the area with the sea, not only in terms of the view, but also in terms of its physical presence in the area.

A large canopy is suspended above the Greek National Opera building and the Lighthouse, 47m. above sea level. The canopy measures one hectare, roughly equal to an American football field, and weighs 4,500 tons, equivalent to as many as 160 tri-axle buses. Water management
GNO and the GNO Park are designed to be as self-sufficient as possible regarding water requirements: irrigation, non-potable water applications and the water used in the Canal. GNO’s energy efficiency initiatives result in a 40% energy reduction compared to what a similar building complex would consume without their implementation. Recycling
GNO has developed processes that encourage recycling by both staff and visitors. In 2017, GNO’s recycling programs were introduced, designed for separation of waste at source. Life at the Park
